Citizenship Classes

Citizenship Classes

Solace Refuge Transition Center has made a profound and lasting contribution to the lives of refugees by serving as a bridge between displacement and successful integration. Through its holistic, compassionate, and community-centered approach, the center addresses the real and immediate challenges refugees face upon arrival in the United States. By providing access to essential resources such as housing guidance, healthcare navigation, legal and citizenship support, and social services, Solace ensures that refugees are not left to navigate complex systems alone. Its ESL programs and cultural orientation classes empower newcomers to communicate effectively, understand their new environment, and participate confidently in daily life. Equally impactful are the job readiness trainings and mentorship programs, which equip refugees with practical skills, confidence, and professional guidance needed to achieve economic independence and long-term stability. Beyond services, Solace Refuge Transition Center fosters dignity, hope, and a sense of belonging, helping individuals heal from past trauma while building a vision for the future. The center’s work strengthens families, promotes self-reliance, and cultivates community leaders who give back and uplift others. By walking alongside refugees at every stage of their transition, Solace does more than provide assistance it transforms lives, builds resilient communities, and demonstrates that with the right support, refugees can thrive and make meaningful contributions to society.

After School Program

After School Program

The Solace Refugees Transition Center’s After School Program is designed to support refugee and immigrant youth by strengthening academic performance while addressing financial and accessibility barriers that often limit their success. The program focuses on improving proficiency in math, English, and reading for K–12 students, with a special emphasis on meeting the unique needs of refugee learners. To ensure full participation, Solace provides transportation to tutoring sites, nutritious meals during sessions, and consistent educational support. Our goal is to enhance students’ scholastic knowledge, comprehension, confidence, and overall well-being. Dedicated volunteers work closely with each student to help them stay current with daily schoolwork, while also conducting in-depth comprehension checks to ensure lessons are clearly understood. Many refugee and immigrant students receive four to six homework assignments daily, and language barriers often make completing these tasks difficult. This challenge can lead to frustration, discouragement, and, in some cases, school dropout. Solace’s After School Program directly addresses these barriers by offering structured tutoring, language support, and personalized guidance to help students succeed and remain engaged in their education. Beyond academics, the program provides social and emotional support. Volunteers assist students with school-assigned workbooks, build social skills, and engage learners through educational games, reading activities, and interactive learning tools. Students who are behind grade-level standards receive targeted support, including one-on-one assistance, allowing each participant to fully grasp key concepts and progress at their own pace. Through this holistic approach, the Solace Refugees Transition Center empowers students to overcome educational challenges, build confidence, and move toward long-term academic success.

Early Childhood Education

Early Childhood Education

The Early Childhood Education Program at the Solace Refugees Transition Center is designed to support young children from refugee and immigrant families during their most critical years of development. The program focuses on building a strong foundation for school readiness, social-emotional growth, and early learning, while also empowering parents to actively participate in their children’s education. Through a safe, nurturing, and culturally responsive environment, Solace helps children develop essential early literacy, numeracy, communication, and motor skills. Learning activities are age-appropriate, interactive, and play-based, encouraging curiosity, creativity, and confidence. Children are introduced to basic reading, vocabulary, shapes, numbers, and problem-solving skills that prepare them for a successful transition into kindergarten and elementary school. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by refugee families, the program also emphasizes socialization and emotional development. Children learn how to interact with peers, follow routines, express their feelings, and build positive relationships—skills that are essential for success both in and out of the classroom. Parental engagement is a core component of the program. Solace works closely with parents to provide guidance on early childhood development, positive parenting practices, and learning activities that can be continued at home. By strengthening the connection between home and early education, the program helps families create supportive learning environments beyond the classroom. The Early Childhood Education Program at Solace Refugees Transition Center not only prepares children academically but also supports their overall well-being, ensuring they begin their educational journey with confidence, stability, and a sense of belonging.
